Reflection Task 2a: Culture

Bhutan’s Death Culture

Death is one of the biggest fears of most people. We don’t want to think about it because it makes us uncomfortable. But why ? I’ve chosen this topic because death is a complicated topic for most people and these culture really impressed me and I wanted to share their thoughts with others. We all know that one day we all will die but we mostly avoid to think and talk about it. The reason for that is ; we don’t want to accept that reality. We don’t want to think about it while there’s some things that we want to do before we die or there are some people we love that are still alive. We don’t want to be forgotten or we don’t want to accept the fact that we will be nothing. That’s why thinking about death is not something people like. But these Bhutanese people consider death as  a ‘’part of life, whether they like it or not’’. Because ‘’ignoring this essential truth comes with a heavy psychological cost’’ according to them. These words really impressed me and made me think: ‘Why would I feel bad thinking about it even though it is going to happen eventually ?’ Like Bhutanese people do; thinking about it frequently makes it more ordinary.
Reflection Task 1a:

Japanese Culture Club
I was really excited when I found out that there is a Japanese Culture related group in Metu. The reason why I want to join this club is that I'm into Japanese language and it's culture and it would be really fun to meet some people who have same interests with me.Also I heard that there is Japanese course for those who want to learn about it and there are anime nights where everyone get together and watch animes together and talk about it afterwards. I was trying to learn about Japanese and it's culture by myself but it wasn't enough, a Professional help would be much heplful.I hope you accept me, best regards.

Media vs. Beauty

Free Reflection
How do the media affect the concept of beauty?
Media is a huge part of our lives.Especially with the growing importance given to the social media, it has became impossible to escape from the boundaries that the media has put.
But how do the media do this? Why do we accept the standarts that the media decides? Why do we see 'the normal' as figures that we see on TV or magazines?
Well, everyone wants to be accepted among other people and when they cannot satisfy the standards that were given they feel inadequate. So they try to look like those perfect beauty idols. Particularly teenagers or younger kids are likely to be affected by these certain images as their personaities or thoughts have not taken form yet. So media has an important role on kids to build up their personalities and ideas.
As a result of these effects, media shapes our acceptance of beauty by controlling and suppressing minds.
